Quick Win project No. 8: Moss Vale Community Garden
Moss Vale Community Garden (NSW) is a place where the community can gather to grow and share healthy food whilst developing supportive friendships. The community garden aims include being a demonstration site for sustainable technologies relating to building materials, energy & water capture and use as well as diverse, permaculture & organic food production strategies.
This wil be CORENA’s first off-grid solar installation. The community garden currently has no electricity on site, so this installation will enable them to expand their activities and will function as a demonstration site for off-grid power. www.mossvalecommunitygarden.org.au, https://www.facebook.com/MossValeCommunityGarden
Regional partner CANWin are assisting with this project.
Manuel Cilia of Cilectric has carefully designed the off-grid system to suit the needs of the community garden and is donating his time to install it.
See what has been achieved via the CORENA loan to Moss Vale Community Garden so far
Note: The ‘At subsequent projects’ figures should be a bit higher than shown below. This is because we temporarily used some Big Win funds to help fund some of our early Quick Win projects, and when we later repaid that amount to the Big Win fund we used three loan repayments from Moss Vale ($900) to help pay that back. That money is now achieving reductions in carbon emissions via Big Win projects, but that benefit is not reflected in the table shown below.
* Since the amount of CO2 avoided is highly dependent on the fuel source used for local grid electricity, and since subsequent CORENA projects (partly funded by loan repayments from this one) are in different locations and began at various times when different carbon intensity figures applied, we have used 1MWh = 1 tonne as a very rough approximation across all projects.
Huge thank you to Embark for matching contributions from new donors (from Oct 15).
