Renewable Energy Project: Solar Panels
A children’s charity for over 100 years, Barnardos advocate for the safety of children at risk of abuse and neglect, providing family support programs and services that empower children to reach their full potential. Barnardos Australia have centres across New South Wales, located in suburbs including Penrith, Auburn, Sydney Metro, and in the Australian Capital Territory. Barnardos are addressing renewable energy and energy efficiency across multiple sites they manage.
The South Coast Children’s Family Centre offers a range of services including family support, early learning, foster care, community building and bushfire recovery support for vulnerable families in the Shoalhaven region of NSW. This loan allowed them to install solar panels and reduce their energy costs which have increased significantly this year.
Centre Manager Maria Corsiglia said “The benefits of solar energy for Barnardos are two-fold as it creates environmental benefits for our community whilst also ensuring we reduce our overall operating costs into the future. This means we can dedicate more funds to support local children and their families. Moving away from coal fired energy to clean energy sources is the way of the future and I’m proud that Barnardos and CORENA are leading by example. The children are also enjoying learning about solar power and sustainability and are excited to see this project unfold”
