Coorabell Hall is a well-loved little country hall overlooking Byron Bay. It is volunteer-run for community, arts and cultural pursuits and has been providing a community meeting space for over 100 years.

This project was funded in partnership with COREM (Community-Owned Renewable Energy Mullumbimby). COREM established their own revolving fund some years back with CORENA offering to help co-fund their earliest project if they were having difficulty raising enough funds locally, but they’ve ended up managing a whole string of projects perfectly well without outside assistance. However, our revolving fund lent their revolving fund $5,000 to assist with the COREM’s recent solar project for the Coorabell Hall.

Loan amount: $5,000
Loan repayments: $416.70/quarter
Work details
– 10.5 kW, 35 x 300W Canadian Solar panels
– 8kW SunGrow single phase inverter
Cost: $9,500 with $5,000 of that covered by the CORENA loan
Expected savings: Average of 35kWh/day or 12,775/yr
Reduction in carbon emissions/yr: Equivalent to 1.21 average households using renewable electricity rather than grid electricity (from CORENA funded portion)
