Help turn community ambition into practical climate action
You don’t need to be a climate or energy expert to volunteer with Corena. What matters most is your passion for helping communities and a willingness to contribute in a way that suits your time, interests and experience. Learn how Corena works.
Why volunteers matter
We are a national charity supported by a committed community of volunteers, donors, supporters and partners. Our volunteers have played an essential role throughout our history, contributing time, local knowledge, professional skills and community connections. Together, we identify projects, communicate our impact, build relationships and extend practical climate action across Australia.
“Corena gave me the trust and space to turn an idea into something practical. I’ve felt genuinely supported while contributing to climate action in a way that uses the skills I care about.” Amirhossein Hosseinikangani, Corena volunteer
Ways to contribute
There are loads of ways to get involved depending on your capacity, availability and interests:
Community connections: Help identify community organisations in your neighborhood that may benefit from funding to install clean energy Corena support, or introduce Corena to useful networks.
Events, outreach and fundraising: Help at an event stall, support a specific fundraising activity, identify speaking opportunities or share information with people who should know about our work.
Research, communications and administration: Complete a research task, proofread content, update data, review a webpage, prepare communications material or support a simple administrative task.
Professional and technical skills: Contribute your experience in energy, engineering, finance, governance, law, grants, data, design, communications, technology or another relevant field.
Note: Available tasks depend on Corena’s current priorities and capacity to provide appropriate support.
Choose a commitment that fits
There’s no single “right” way to volunteer with us. Whether you have an hour to help with a defined task, a day to support an event, or time to contribute your skills over a few weeks, we’ll aim to find a contribution that is useful, realistic and well supported.
Micro-task: approximately 30–90 minutes; ready to go with a clear output.
One-off or event: a few hours to one day; linked to a date or single outcome.
Short project: several hours across approximately 1–8 weeks; scoped deliverables and checkpoints.
Limited ongoing role: an agreed schedule and review period; only where Corena has an ongoing need and support capacity.
You can volunteer with us once, come back when it suits you, take a break or move on, there’s no pressure to take on more than you want to.
What you can expect
When you volunteer with us, we want your contribution to feel worthwhile, manageable and supported. We’ll aim to provide:
- A clearly defined task that makes a genuine difference.
- A realistic idea of the time involved and what “done” looks like.
- The information, resources and a friendly point of contact you need to get started.
- Support that fits the task, without unnecessary meetings.
- Thanks and, where possible, an update on the difference your contribution has made.
- The freedom to say no, take a break or finish up whenever you need to.
What we ask of you
To help things run smoothly, we ask that you:
- Take on work that fits your time, skills and capacity.
- Let us know early if something changes or you get stuck.
- Respect confidentiality, privacy and professional boundaries.
- Check with us before publishing information, making commitments or representing Corena externally.
- Send us a short update when you complete, pause or hand over a task.
How it works
Getting involved is simple:
- Tell us a little about yourself through the expression-of-interest form.
- We’ll send you a confirmation and some introductory information.
- We’ll review your response and aim to get back to you within four business days.
- We’ll look for a task that suits your interests, skills and availability.
- We’ll agree on a clear first task together, or have a short conversation if that would be helpful.
- You contribute in the way you’ve agreed, with support along the way.
- When you’re finished, you can choose to stay involved, take a break or move on, whatever works for you.
Ready to contribute?
Tell us what interests you, the skills or experiences you may want to use, where you are based and how much time you can realistically contribute. You do not need to identify a specific role before getting in touch.
