Quick Win project No. 7: Warradale Community Child Care Centre

Warradale Community Children’s Centre opened in 1993 and programs include Child Care for babies and children up to school age and DECD funded Pre-school for 4 year olds. The curriculum is a play based one which incorporates music sessions, a nutrition program, permaculture and sustainability programs. WCCC believes that high quality care and education of young children is a direct result of children, parents, educators and community organisations working together to establish and maintain an environment that is motivating, enriching and challenging for each child. WCCC recently was assessed as “Exceeding National Quality Standards”.

See what has been achieved so far via the CORENA loan for the Warradale CCC solar PV and LED lighting project

Note: The ‘At subsequent projects’ figures should be a bit higher than shown below. This is because we temporarily used some Big Win funds to help fund some of our early Quick Win projects, and when we later repaid that amount to the Big Win fund we used two loan repayments from Warradale ($1,522) to help pay that back. That money is now achieving reductions in carbon emissions via Big Win projects, but that benefit is not reflected in the table shown below.

* Since the amount of CO2 avoided is highly dependent on the fuel source used for local grid electricity, and since subsequent CORENA projects (partly funded by loan repayments from this one) are in different locations and began at various times when different carbon intensity figures applied, we have used 1MWh = 1 tonne as a very rough approximation across all projects.

Note: The install date shown above is adjusted to take into account the difference between the install dates of the two parts of this project. The LED lighting was actually installed on 12/10/15, and the solar panels on 11/01/16. You can see the solar output component of this project online at https://monitoringpublic.solaredge.com/solaredge-web/p/kiosk?guid=9575422c-971c-426c-8601-971f3a7026e7

This project is now fully funded – Thank You!

Note: Fundraising for the Warradale CCC project was temporarily on hold while we assessed the impact of a new SA network regulation affecting small business accounts with 3-phase electricity supply when they install solar PV. This tariff change made the payback time 5 years instead of 3.8 years, but that is still a good payback time so we took this project off hold and it has now been fully funded.
