Solar Panels

Mary Knoll Retreat Centre with CORENA funded solar panels on roof

Thanks to its environmental and cost saving benefits, solar panel uptake is increasing across homes and businesses. In fact, Australia is among the world’s highest with one in four homes having solar panels. This is helped by Australia leading the world in average solar radiation per square metre — not surprising for a continent blessed with so much sunlight!

An Efficient & Affordable Renewable Energy Source

Once installed solar power systems produce energy directly from the sun and provide a clean, sustainable and practically free source of energy which can be used for lighting, heating, electrical appliances and even to charge electric vehicles.

Solar Panel Benefits

Solar panels have several unique benefits that make them an ideal renewable energy choice in urban environments:

  • Easily scalable – the number of solar panels can be increased depending on the needs of your organisation
  • Ideal for urban areas – panels are quiet, unobtrusive and relatively easy to get permits for
  • Low maintenance – once installed they are easy to look after and have the potential to last for many years with minimal issues

At present, solar panels are the most viable and popular type of renewable energy project in Australia for non profits and small businesses. They are environmentally friendly, economical, and readily available. Non profits with office buildings, social enterprises, aged care facilities or schools are often ideally placed to take advantage of solar panels as they operate during the day and can self consume the energy, reducing their power bills. Most solar panel projects in these situations pay themselves off in 3-6 years. Non profits such as sporting clubs who operate only on the weekends or at night may find solar panels are not a viable option for them, however there are many other energy efficiency actions they can consider instead.

Solar Panels Project Funding for Non Profits

CORENA, can provide free technical advice and zero interest funding to not for profits, charities, community organisations and social enterprises looking to reduce their emissions and green their energy consumption. We are funded by donations from local community members across Australia. Donations help us fund solar panels, energy efficiency initiatives, electric vehicles, and other renewable energy projects.

CORENA has provided community funded interest-free loans for solar panel projects such as:

  • Aged Care Facilities
  • Child Care Centres
  • Community Centres
  • Schools
  • Community Housing Projects
  • Bowls Clubs
